Garment dyeing submerges the finished garment in a dye bath after assembly. The dye penetrates the cotton fibres directly, producing tonal variation — seams absorb colour differently to panels — and a lived-in finish that no pre-dyed fabric can replicate. It also preshrinks the garment: the heat and agitation of the dye drum forces the fibres to contract before the piece reaches you.
